Department Order No. 13

Headquarters Department of Maryland, April 22, 2006

Brothers this is my last Department Order. I wish to thank each and every one of you for your assistance in helping me along the way and for entrusting me with the care of the Department over the last two years. I trust I have left as good if not better then when I assumed command.

I wish to thank all my officers who served either as elected or appointed officers. Special thanks to Ken Chew who was always there for me from our own Appomattox Camp officer line all the way through the Department line. To Andy Johnson for serving as a friend and mentor to me and so many other brothers. If everyone had a mentor like Andy I can only imagine what kind of organization we would have. Lastly, I want to again thank our Department Secretary/Treasurer Gene Mortorff for his untiring efforts on behalf of the Department. He was always read to assist whether it was traveling with me or ensuring that all the reports were done correctly and on time.

We will elect and install a new slate of officers today and I ask that each Camp and Camp Commander give the new officers the same support they have given me over the last two years.

We are in an upward swing in membership and camp growth we can continue this positive growth if we remain focused on what our mission is.

As I leave office as Department Commander I will remain engaged in helping the Department in anyway I can. Please contact me if I can assist you or your camp.

In Fraternity, Charity, and Loyalty,

James R. Hanby, Sr. Maryland Department Commander
